Testosterone in Womb Linked to AutismAn 8 year study of 253 children found that fetuses exposed to high levels of the male sex hormone testosterone are at a higher risk of developing autistic traits in childhood. These results support earlier animal research linking brain development to fetal levels of the hormone. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by marked deficits in communication and social interaction.
