I"m getting my strength back however...thanks to vitamin C supplements! You know my cholesterol was up back in October so I began a high protein low(er) carb diet much like the "Protein Power" diet and felt better immediately. Well, I was eating lots of fruits such as bananas and mango which are extremely high in carbs. Sugar causes inflation in case you didn't know that! It's the sugar not the protein or cholesterol itself to become aware of.. yet doctor's push statins to reduce cholesterol.
I'm worried about my friend who has been on Lipitor for about six months now. I have a book in front of me from the library that I wish she would read: "Lipitor Thief of Memory" by Duane Graveline, M.D. It's about statin drugs and the misguided war on cholesterol! Beware the drug companies is all that I have to say.
Statins like Lipitor can cause muscle lost and memory lost..sometime not at first but much later on. I told my friend. She said "Oh, I'll always be around". I said "Yes, I pray you are, all the time, but I guess I have to be more specific with my wishes.. now I have to include that you know you are around". I think she got my point! I wonder how many other friends I have that are on Lipitor.
My friend admitted that the "Protein Power" diet worked great for her in the past as well as it did me.. I had my cholesterol before 180 a couple years back..but then I slowly got off the high protein maintenance plan and back onto eating lots of carbs and sugars - I thought for energy. But, you know what? I get just as much energy on my lower carb diet too.
So I said to my friend how about you and I (and another friend) begin to work out in the mornings. She agreed. We left it at that! I plan on reading more. I should stay up all night and read. I have "The HIdden Truth about Cholesterol-lowering Drugs" by Shane Ellison, M.Sc. He worked for a drug company! I also have "The Truth About the Drug Companies" by Marcia Angell, M.D.
Gee, and I have about three Kevin Pillips books to read too. Oh, don't forget to add Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine" to your list of readings.
I could go on and on but I have to read now....
