Lisa LIng in North Korea on Exploer

The National Geographical channel. I'll try to hit upon a few highlights of this excellent documentary. Lisa Ling does an excellent job narrating the documentary and well as creating it. The Emperor Kim Jong Il as a million nuclear weapons and a trapped fear stricken, leader worshipping population that is starving. Most who are not privileged live in concentration salt mine camps. Many have cataracts and are blind. Dr Ruit is there from help them see and when they can see they do not praise the doctor but praise the emperor Kim Jong IL.

These are a people who are brainwashed and live in fear. They hate Americans. They are cut off from the rest of the world. Even the privileged have no cell phone, TV or newspapers. They live in brainwashed isolation.

Lisa Ling is the only American there. She slips in with Dr. Ruit who has ten days to do eye surgery on 1000 people and he does. The people sit in silent before and after the surgery. When they do speak at any time it is to praise their leader. They are so brainwashed and I think out of fear they say or talk about nothing else.

At the DMZ two North Koreans guards face each other and one faces back into North Korea. So no one escapes. The two face each other to guard each other. Only a few feet away a South Korean soldier guards the south side with an American soldier. One young man spoke of his escape to South Korea luckily grounding the electrical wires with a pole long enough to crawl under and luckily crossing a very large mine field into South Korea. He cannot talk about what may have happened to his family left there in North Korea. They were probably all tortured and killed. Death of the entire family that is left behind is a successfully escape attempt deterrent usually.

How it all began. Korea was once an ally of Japan but through war broke away. After the Korean War, Communist North Korea sided with Communist Russia and South Korea sided with America.

Today North Korea sides with China. There is no oil in North Korea which is probably one of the reasons we are not there liberating those starving people. And we are in deep trillion dollar national debt to China who has loaned us money and if they default our economy could go bust. Besides we import almost everything we buy in the stores from China. The United States I believe thought about rashoning sanctions for North Korea but the people there are already starving...all except for a few and the hefty emperor who manages to get several limousines and record supply of Hennessy cognac.

Lisa Ling is due for an award for this documentary and another she will do on the same channel Sunday evening regarding the harvesting of organs for life and profit.
