Women made history this week...did you know?

See the New York Times article: Kennedy Space Center, Fla. Nov 7, 2007. "The shuttle Discovery glided to a safe landing here Wednesday, bringing to a close an eventful mission that combined challenging space station construction and emergency repairs.

Commander Pamela A. Melroy, retired colonel in the Air Force) fired the shuttle's braking rockets just before noon, Eastern time, beginning the return from orbit. The shuttle flew over North America from the northwest to the southeast and landed on the 15,000 landing strip shortly after 1 p.m." I believe there were four in her crew and seven on the space station. Two hours after the landing, Commander Wilson along with others of her crew are performing the customary inspecting of the underside of the Discovery shuttle.

Pamela A. Melroy, the only second woman to land a space shuttle. Her fight coincided with the first female led space station crew, and catapulted Melroy and station skipper Peggy Whitson into space history books as the first woman space commanders to meet in orbit. How cool is that?

The space station and I believe has been up there for about five months as has Clayton Anderson who has come back down to celebrate his 15th wedding anniversary. He is a little worried about the effects re-entering gravity will have on his vestibular system and balance.

The next flight to the space station will be December 6th, 2007.
